The cavendish coalition
Ensuring continuing quality in health and social care
The health and social care organisations named below are united in their commitment to provide the best care to the communities, patients and residents that we are proud to serve.
We recognise that the talented and diverse group of people we employ and represent are central to the success of that commitment, and that these individuals from the UK, Europe and across the world make a vital contribution to delivering care to the UK’s population. We are committed to working together to ensure a continued domestic and international pipeline of high calibre professionals and trainees in health and social care.
Following the nation’s decision to leave the EU, we have recognised the need to come together as there is much to do across health and social care to support this process.
We have committed to secure the workforce required to deliver continuing quality in health and social care through:
- supporting the economic as well as social health of the communities we work within through the creation of opportunities for training and employment
- promoting employment policy and practice which ensures that the UK continues to be able to attract vital skills from Europe and around the world to work in health and social care
- seeking certainty for those already working in the UK by advocating for the right of the current health and social care workforce originating from European Economic Area (EEA) members to remain here
In honouring these commitments we will ensure that we:
- provide a focal point for engagement with relevant government departments and governmental arms-length bodies, as well as regulators, on the workforce issues arising from the UK’s new position
- work together to ensure that we promote opportunities for employment within health and social care, particularly in our local communities and where necessary, internationally
- support ongoing work to enhance community cohesion and continue to back efforts to tackle xenophobia and hate crime against staff and patients
- complement the broader settlement of non-workforce issues following withdrawal from the EU
- support the UK’s contribution to the global development of health and social care practice and research
- build the evidence base to support policy on all of the above
Individual participants in The Cavendish Coalition will continue to work with their stakeholders including the government and the NHS arms-length bodies on matters of direct interest to those they represent.
