At yesterday’s NHS Alliance conference, the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt MP, launched the NHS Alliance’s Tomorrow’s Leaders Network, with an on stage Q&A session after his conference speech.
The Secretary of State introduced the Tomorrow’s Leaders Network, and then fielded questions from four members of the new network – a GP, a pharmacist, an NHS Manager, and a community representative – about the future of the NHS.
As the NHS Alliance embarks on a new phase in its journey, it recognises the importance of maintaining a fresh and relevant outlook. The Tomorrow’s Leaders network, which launched yesterday, will help the Alliance do just that. An inspirational group of young GPs, pharmacists, social and housing workers, NHS managers and executives have agreed to come together and join the NHS Alliance as leaders of tomorrow to help shape the vision for the world they will be running in the years to come.
Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, said: “I’m delighted to launch the NHS Alliance’s new network. It’s vitally important that we ensure there is a new generation of health professionals to take on the challenges that the NHS is currently facing. As part of the only independent organisation to speak exclusively for primary care, this network will play a crucial part in ensuring the NHS remains sustainable in the future, and that it continues to provide patients and the public with exceptional care.”
Dr Michael Dixon, chair, NHS Alliance said: “The NHS Alliance is currently focused on ensuring that primary care is fit for a future that will face increasing financial demands, and pressures from an ageing population. We passionately believe that it if we have any chance of making this vision for primary care a reality, then we will need to identify and nurture a generation of new, young leaders.”
Jo Ward, NHS Graduate Management Trainee, and Tomorrow’s Leaders Network member, said: “I believe that breaking boundaries in healthcare is fundamentally important. That’s why I’m so excited to be involved in the Tomorrow’s Leaders Network, and meet other passionate young people from across the health and social care sector. I hope that, working together, we will make a real impact on the future of the NHS.”
The network will be made up of passionate, bright, and visionary young leaders who are dedicated to making sure the health service, and especially primary care, can adapt to the changing needs of the population.
Health writer and commentator Roy Lilley has agreed to be a patron of the Tomorrow’s Leaders Network.
